Yorkshire Coast Yoga Holidays Blog

An ongoing series of informational entries

January 26th, 2020

The first Yorkshire Coast Yoga and Walking weekend of 2020 took place last week. My guests were a group of very active ladies from Cumbria.

The weather was great for January and some of the guests enjoyed early morning sea swimming (without wetsuits!) before each morning session of yoga. Some brought bikes for a trip to Dalby Forest and others enjoyed beach walking on Filey Bay.

After brunch on the Saturday we walked 8 miles from Flamborough Lighthouse back to the accommodation. We spotted harbour porpoise in the sea off Flamborough Head, Fulmars and Guillemots were easily viewed as we walked along RSBP Bempton Cliffs.

Before dinner relaxing treatments such as neck, back and shoulder massages were enjoyed.

Katy's catering was a success as usual and her Katsu Curry was so popular that she provided the recipe to the guests.

I'm leaving Chris and the cat at home soon for my month long adventure to the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India.

It was established in 1975 by BKS Iyengar. International Iyengar yoga teachers and dedicated students are taught by the Iyengar family and it is a privilege to attend.

I hope to further my study of Iyengar yoga and improve my own practise and teaching. I intend to post about my time in India as so many guests and students have asked me to.

As the cold weather arrived across the North Sea, RSPB Bempton cliffs looked spectacular this week topped with snow. There had been recent sightings of Porpoise, however we settled for Fulmars, Gannets and the 'Beast from the East'! In Spring we will see returning Puffins, Guillemots and Razorbills, among other birds, nesting on the chalk cliffs which support England's largest population of seabirds. Combine a Yorkshire Coast Yoga Holiday with a spot of bird watching from April to September!

From Fraisthorpe Beach in East Yorkshire to the seaside resort of Filey on the North Yorkshire border this fabulous coastline boasts several gorgeous award winning beaches and coves. Two beaches at Bridlington have over a mile of golden sand complete with promenade and chalets. Flamborough Head’s North Landing is a super little beach cove complete with caves to explore and a small fleet of fishing boats. Danes Dyke is a wonderful coastal nature reserve with a winding path through an ancient forest to reach the scenic white pebbled beach. Beautiful Filey is an unspoilt seaside town boasting a promenade and beach which stretches five miles with the rugged peninsula of Filey Brigg at one end, the start of the Cleveland Way National Trail. From here you can even see Scarborough Castle in the distance.
